The diamond cut has evolved over many generations with the aim of eliciting the richest possible play of light from the stone. For a long time, the technical possibilities and the range of diamonds available set narrow limits to the experiments of stone cutters. As late as the 19th century, the shape of the diamond known as a "brilliant" was therefore not clearly defined. These diamonds, known today as old-cut diamonds, were already very similar to today's brilliant-cut diamonds, but it would take a few more generations of continuous development before the modern full cut was finally created in the 1940s. The modern brilliant is characterized by the fact that both the reflection of light in the stone and the refraction of light on the facets, which is responsible for the coloured sparkles, are optimized according to the laws of physics. It is important that the proportions, symmetry and also the execution of the cut and polish are as successful as possible in order to enable the desired path of light in the stone. The brilliant here fulfills these requirements - and the result is a stone with a wonderful brilliance. The diamond weighs 1.01 carats. It displays the coveted color grade of "very fine white" ("E"), which is also known as "river". Its cut, proportions and polish have been graded as "very good". Only its purity is not completely flawless, it shows small black individual inclusions in the stone. These make it unmistakable, but only slightly diminish its brilliance. Two independent certificates have confirmed this information. The diamond is held in a restrained prong setting made of platinum and accompanied by six smaller brilliant-cut diamonds, which discreetly adorn the shoulders of the ring. However, as the ring shoulders are slightly set off from the center stone, the focus remains on the precious brilliant-cut diamond in the middle. We were able to produce the ring sustainably in our workshop using existing materials. The smaller diamonds and the platinum come from pieces of jewelry that were no longer wearable. The center stone comes from a collection of diamonds that were acquired by their previous owner in the 1970s for investment purposes. It is therefore unworn and now adorns a ring that can be worn every day thanks to its insensitive materials.
