US MODEL 1832 GENERAL OFFICER’S SWORD BY N.P. AMES CUTLER, SPRINGFIELD.

US MODEL 1832 GENERAL OFFICER’S SWORD BY N.P. AMES CUTLER, SPRINGFIELD. 1832 pattern US general officer's sword. Brass guard and globe pommel with simple incised lines. Knucklebow with raised dot design, joining crossguard at quillon block, boat-shape guard slotted at bottom, closed at top with an open heart. Two piece silver grip simulates finely wrapped individual wire. Blade is spadroon form, straight, single edge transitioning to double edge midway with single fuller tapering off at that point. Etched designs decorate the blade, which are foliate and patriotic in nature including a Native warrior with federal eagle. Blade is maker etched "N.P. AMES / CUTLER / SPRINGFIELD". The blade exhibits a gray patina throughout which mutes the motifs. Hilt exhibits a pleasing patina with scattered blemishes. The sword is complete with its leather scabbard that features brass mounts. Scabbard exhibits recoloring with pin holes ghosting where mounts used to be. The mounts exhibit tarnishing and patina with small trace amounts of gilding. Stud and carry ring are in place and secure. CONDITION: Good.
