The image of the Pontiff, in front of the Holy Door, rises as an iconic representation of the shepherd who leads his people to reconciliation with God, and to his merciful embrace. Pope Francis wanted a Jubilee that would be a symbol of an “open door,” of a community that welcomes unreservedly, especially those who feel distant from the Church, those who live in pain, or those on the margins of society.
