Vernier sextant - Wood - H. Hughes & Son Ltd. London - Antique ship's sextant

A gorgeous and complete antique nautical micrometer sextant from the prominent English maker H. Hughes & Son Ltd. London (serial number 41442). ​This high-quality navigation instrument dates from the period of the Second World War (ca. 1943–1945), just before the famed brand merged into Kelvin & Hughes. The sextant features a black-lacquered frame with a brass scale and micrometer adjustment. ​Serial number: 41442 (engraved on the arc and listed on the certificate) Original Certificate of Examination by Thomas Foulkes (London) dated 15 March 1978 ​In its original solid wooden storage case with dovetail joints, copper clasps and the original key ​Including an extra telescope/eyepiece, tilts, and cleaning brush ​in excellent vintage/antique condition with a very nice patina. Mirrors, lenses and mechanism are well preserved. ​A splendid collectible for lovers of nautical history, antique instruments, or as a maritime decorative piece in a stylish interior. These sextants were used for precise navigation at sea and formed an essential tool long before the GPS era.
