Victor de Stenay - Le Grand Phare prophétique

Victor de Stenay — The Great Prophetic Lighthouse, 1881. Copy heavily corrected and annotated by hand. Stenay (Victor de). The Great Prophetic Lighthouse, or the political and religious events of France, Rome and Europe revealed up to the 20th century. Louvain, J. Lefever Printing House; Tourcoing-Lille and Mouscron, Augustin Boisleux, November 1881. Second edition, entirely rewritten, considerably improved and expanded, according to the title's note. Paperback volume, with the original purple-printed cover preserved. Untrimmed copy, with wear and small marginal losses to the cover, some stains and foxing. Remarkable feature: numerous hand-written corrections in ink, including passages crossed out, word substitutions, elaborations and extensive marginal notes by the author for a subsequent edition. Curious work of Catholic prophecy, of legitimist and counter-revolutionary inspiration, devoted to the interpretation of political and religious events in France and Europe. The author mobilizes notably the Premol prophecy, the apparitions of La Salette, Marie-Julie Jahenny, apocalyptic symbolism and the hope of a monarchist restoration. The major interest of this copy lies in its manuscript interventions. Some modify profoundly the interpretation of the printed text, notably the references to Pope Leo XIII, to Henry V and to the anticipated prophetic events. These interventions could constitute a preparation for a new edition. Victor de Stenay is the pseudonym of Victor Collin La Herte (1832-1896), Catholic polemicist and author of numerous prophetic writings.
