Alle Auktionen / Schmuck und Edelsteine / Victorian Novelty Cufflinks with Enameled Borzoi Dogs, c. 1900

The Borzoi is a Russian sighthound breed that has been documented since the 14th century. The name of these dogs is derived from the Russian "борзый" ("borsy", in German "fast") and refers to the extraordinary racing performance of the sleek animals. In former times the Borzoi was mainly used for hunting. Famous was the breeding of the Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolajewitsch in Perchino. Until around 1914 the Borzoi was the "national dog" of the Russians; towards the middle of the 19th century it was also bred in England for the first time. The present British cufflinks present on their identically designed fronts profile pictures of this particularly noble dog in a detailed manner in fine enamel painting. The manufacturer has convincingly succeeded in capturing the character of the animal. The otherwise simple design of the cufflinks in oval silver shapes, joined by short bars, make the buttons stylish companions even some 120 years after their creation. Are you also intelligent, agile and quick? Then these cufflinks are just the right jewellery for your shirt!
