VIGNOLLE (Giacomo Barozzi da) - LE MUET (Pierre) Rules of the five Orders of Architecture by Vignolle. Reissued, augmented, and reduced from large to small by Le Muet [Holland?], [Second half of the XVIIth century]. In-12 (17.7 x 12 cm), (2 leaves)-101 pp., bound. Soft parchment with flaps. Contemporary binding. Parchment worn, title engraved and title page missing, marginal tears without loss and light stains on the first leaves. Usual wear. Counterfeit of the edition of the Rules of the five orders of Vignolle given by Mariette in Paris in 1632. It is entirely engraved, the text and architectural plates occupying a double-ruled border. The 1632 work thus reprises Vignolle’s writings and is augmented by that of the French architect Pierre Le Muet. This small format earned it the designation of the “little French Vignole.” The work thus presents, face to face, the explanatory text and the plates devoted to proportions and the various elements of the orders, making this treatise a true practical manual of classical architecture.
