Viking Bronze Raven Pendant (No reserve price)

Viking Bronze Raven Pendant Circa 11th century AD A remarkable Viking bronze pendant depicting a stylised raven in profile, with an elongated neck, a prominent hooked beak, and a circular eye. The compact body is divided into recessed cells for inlay. Two short legs extend beneath, and a circular suspension hole is set above the bird’s back. The Vikings were Scandinavian seafarers, merchants, warriors and settlers whose activities transformed northern Europe between the late 8th and 11th centuries AD. Originating principally from present-day Denmark, Norway and Sweden, they established trading networks extending from the British Isles and the North Atlantic to the Byzantine Empire and the Islamic world. Their exceptionally advanced shipbuilding techniques enabled them to navigate both open seas and shallow inland rivers, reaching as far west as Newfoundland in North America, approximately five centuries before Columbus. Viking merchants exchanged furs, amber, walrus ivory and enslaved people for silver, silk, glass and other luxury goods.
