Viking Bronze Twisted Bracelet (No reserve price)

Viking Bronze Twisted Bracelet Circa 10th-11th century AD A fine bronze penannular bracelet formed from a substantial rod, with a broad central section decorated with continuous spiral grooves creating a twisted rope pattern. The ornament extends along much of the hoop, gradually becoming shallower towards the ends. The bracelet terminates in slightly flattened, rounded terminals. The Vikings were Scandinavian seafarers, merchants, warriors and settlers whose activities transformed northern Europe between the late 8th and 11th centuries AD. Originating principally from present-day Denmark, Norway and Sweden, they established trading networks extending from the British Isles and the North Atlantic to the Byzantine Empire and the Islamic world. Their exceptionally advanced shipbuilding techniques enabled them to navigate both open seas and shallow inland rivers, reaching as far west as Newfoundland in North America, approximately five centuries before Columbus. Viking merchants exchanged furs, amber, walrus ivory and enslaved people for silver, silk, glass and other luxury goods.
