Viking Era Bronze Cross pendant - 25 mm (No reserve price)

Culture: Viking era Period: 11th–13th century AD Material: Bronze (copper alloy) Dimensions: 25 × 19 mm description A beautiful miniature medieval bronze cross pendant, attributed to the 11th–13th century AD and associated with the Christian artistic traditions of Medieval Rus. The cross features a distinctive diamond-shaped central medallion decorated with small raised dots, surrounded by four short arms with pronounced globular terminals. Additional moulded details adorn the arms, creating an attractive three-dimensional design despite its small size. The pendant is cast in one piece and features a substantial, fully perforated cylindrical suspension loop, allowing it to be worn on a cord or chain. Cross pendants with diamond-shaped centres and rounded or globular terminals are documented among medieval Rus archaeological finds. Their distinctive designs reflect the rich metalworking traditions of medieval Eastern Europe and the influence of Byzantine Christianity. Such miniature crosses were worn as personal expressions of Christian faith and devotion, often serving as protective religious symbols. The pendant displays an attractive dark greenish-brown patina with visible signs of age and surface wear, highlighting its sculptural details. A charming and distinctive example of medieval Christian jewellery, combining elaborate decoration with remarkably compact dimensions. Condition: Good archaeological condition, with age-related surface wear, corrosion and patination. The suspension loop is intact and fully perforated. Please examine the photographs carefully.
