Work belonging to the Piedmontese landscape current of the eighteenth century, Baroque style. Extraordinary river landscape with a broad panoramic breath. The blue and pink sky, the silvery reflections of the water, and the succession of bridges, towers and fantastic architectures create a surprising depth. Shepherds, riders and herds animate the foreground with precise touches of color; light glazes and fluid brushwork are typical of the most refined Piedmontese landscape painting of the eighteenth century. The multi-level scenographic construction and the presence of the crenellated bridge, the circular building, the horseman and the herds find precise echoes in the documented compositions of Vittorio Amedeo Cignaroli. Even the blue-pink distant horizons, the luminous water and the fantastic architectures belong to his most recognizable repertoire. The convergence of these elements thus allows attribution to the Turin master. Dating between 1765 and 1780, the painting is presented in good conservation condition, with normal signs of aging that underscore its historical charm; the recent cleaning has restored full legibility and luminosity to the composition. The gilded frame, without glass, enhances the breadth of the work. The unusual back bears a Liberty decorative print used as protection and fixed by wooden slats, in addition to some handwritten inscriptions on the frame and on the canvas. Vittorio Amedeo Cignaroli, born in Turin in 1730 and who died there in 1800, was one of the most appreciated landscape painters of the Savoy court, active at Stupinigi and appointed professor of the Royal Academy in 1778. His landscapes are particularly sought after for the spectacular scenographic construction, the chromatic refinement and the quality of light effects.
