Wesley Altena (1987) - The Dutch

Acrylic painting on canvas, framed "When the Dutch Ruled the Netherlands" This charming acrylic landscape painting depicts a classic Dutch windmill standing in a verdant rural scene. The windmill, with its prominent sails, is centrally positioned against a dramatic, cloudy sky with soft beige and grey tones. Lush green trees and bushes flank the windmill, while a gently sloping grassy field with a dirt path occupies the foreground. A striking, stylized banner cuts diagonally across the composition bearing the bold, playful text "WHEN THE DUTCH RULED THE NETHERLANDS!" in bright red lettering with yellow highlights on a black background edged in white. This humorous or ironic inscription gives the work a distinctive, tongue-in-cheek character. Frame: Presented in a substantial silver-grey wooden frame with stepped molding, giving it a clean, contemporary look that complements the artwork. Style: Naive / folk-art influenced figurative landscape with expressive brushwork and a slightly whimsical tone. The use of acrylic creates vibrant colors and good textural contrast between the sky, foliage, and architectural elements of the windmill. Ideal for collectors of modern folk art, Dutch-themed works, or humorous narrative paintings. The piece is in good condition with no visible damage to the canvas or frame. Ready to hang.
