From our collections, we present this splendid photograph framed in our elegant 13x18 cm portrait frames, capturing former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard at the wheel of the Rothmans Williams Renault FW17B during the F1 weekend Australian Grand Prix EDS 1995. This framed photograph captures an iconic and bitter moment in F1 history: this Grand Prix went down in history for Coulthard's dramatic retirement. After starting from the front row and leading the race, on the 19th lap he headed into the pit lane for his first pit stop. He entered the very narrow and treacherous Adelaide pit lane at too high a speed, lost control on the dusty track, locked the front wheels, and went straight into the cement wall at the pit entry, destroying the suspension and retiring instantly. The image of the race leader crashing on his own before reaching his mechanics remains one of the most incredible moments in F1. Years later, Coulthard revealed a painfully painful financial backstory related to that mistake. Adelaide was his last race with Williams before transferring to McLaren in 1996. In his pre-contract with Ron Dennis's team, rich bonuses tied to performances and end-of-season wins in 1995 were foreseen. Coulthard estimated that that single impact against the pit wall cost him about 2 million pounds in prizes and bonuses that went up in smoke. The one captured in the photo was the last ever F1 race on the Adelaide street circuit. From 1996, the Australian Grand Prix definitively moved to the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne. That race was so chaotic and full of retirements that Coulthard's teammate, Damon Hill, won the race by a monumental two-lap margin over the second place (Olivier Panis). In summary, this is an extremely interesting and unmissable lot. Ready to ship, careful packing. JMmotorsportMemorabilia
