Yamatoku-oven (山徳 / ヤマトク)

Wonderful pair of antique Japanese Igezara porcelain wall plaques – Yamatoku kiln (山徳) – ca. 1900-1920 A splendid and harmonious pair of antique Japanese porcelain deep wall plaques executed in the sought-after Igezara porcelain, dating from the late Meiji to early Taisho period (circa 1900–1920). The plates feature a refined transferred print in deep cobalt blue, inspired by the well-known Western 'Blue Willow' style, with images of the willow tree, pagodas, figures on the bridge, and the two flying doves. Characteristic of this specific type of high-quality export porcelain is the beautifully fluted/serrated edge with a contrasting glossy brown rim (the so-called pie crust rim). The backside is elegantly decorated with blue floral motifs and contains the official square blind stamp (embossed glaze mark) of the respected Yamatoku kiln (山徳) from the famous Arita/Imari region. Because many Igezara plates have gone unnoticed, this recognizable mark makes the set especially valuable to collectors. The subtle differences in thickness and weight attest to the authentic, hand-made production method in the Japanese kilns around 1900. Both plates are equipped with their authentic antique iron-wire hanging systems and are ready to be hung.
