A Maruyama school six-panel ink-on-paper folding screen...

A six-panel folding screen (byōbu) of the Maruyama–Shijō School, painted in ink on paper with a tranquil landscape traversed by a gently flowing mountain stream. Towering trees rise from the misty riverbank, while delicate foliage and softly rolling hills recede into the distance, creating a composition of remarkable depth and atmospheric serenity. The painting displays subtle tonal gradations and an elegant balance between solid forms and empty space. Signed in the lower left corner, with two seals. The screen can also be easily mounted on a wall or used as a room divider. Byōbu (屏風), literally “wind protection screens,” are traditional Japanese folding screens originally created to divide spaces and today appreciated above all as striking wall-mounted paintings. --- The byobu is in good condition with stains, small holes and minor tears with a small cut (picture 13). Please refer to the pictures for further details. The item will be carefully packed and shipped accompanied by the original certificate of authenticity issued by Mastromauro Japanese art gallery based in Milan, Italy. 985
